Ohio Medicaid Releases 2024 Fee Schedule Draft

Earlier this year, OSMA was successful in advocating for a Medicaid rate increase in the state budget. A top priority for OSMA, in its entirety, for the 18-month period starting in January, estimates are that the increase should result in more than $200 million in new funding for physician professional services.

OSMA will be reviewing the initial Fee Schedule draft (released by ODM on Oct. 3), and potentially submitting comments. There will be several other formal steps in the process and opportunities for comment before the rules are finalized at the end of the year.

What should practices do to prepare for the rate increase implementation?

  • Review the initial rate proposal, assess the impact on your practice and potentially submit feedback to ODH. The deadline for this first phase is Oct. 9.

  • Continue to monitor and review communications from OSMA regarding specific details on how the increases will be applied across the different codes in the fee schedule.

  • We know most Medicaid patients are covered by the different Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs). You need to review your contracts with these companies to see if the rate you’re being paid is linked to the fee-for-service Medicaid fee schedule. This is the fee schedule that will be updated to reflect the increases in payments.

  • Once the fee schedule is updated in January, be sure to monitor your claim payments to ensure any codes that have seen increases are being reflected in your payments.

We will continue to provide updated information between now and January 1 as its released by ODM.
