When asked about reflections on his summer experiences, our OSMA Summer Scholar, Adam, replied:"I had an amazing research experience this summer with the help of the OSMA Foundation's scholarship stipend. I spent my summer reviewing the charts of patients with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis for a multi-center study funded by the CDC. I was also able to see a couple of cases of RRP in person and meet the patients that the disease affected. I was very moved by the burden of surgeries for this disease, both through conversations with patients and chart review. In my chart review, I filled in over 100 data fields, really capturing the whole picture of each patient. I enjoyed being able to see the story of each patient's medical journey and I know that the data will be instrumental for changing treatment approaches in RRP. This summer experience really furthered my interest in ENT and medicine in general. I would like to thank Dr. Aaron Friedman for his guidance and the OSMA for supporting me during my summer." |
